Death Begins in the Colon

by Dr. Terri Hawkins

How often we have heard this phrase stated? Many of you are still examining the application of the meaning behind this and how it applies to self. In our society the internal cleansing of the body is seldom elaborated upon, or even given the slightest thought of the importance of such. We have been trained to focus on the symptoms the body is manifesting without searching for the cause. If we would examine this procedure, it is logically apparent that if the cause of a problem were eliminated, so to would the evidence of all symptoms be non-existent. With this in mind let’s explore the

function of the colon and why the phrase “Death begins in the Colon” is acclaimed.

The very purpose and function of the colon as an organ of elimination is to collect all fermentative and putrefactive toxic waste from every part of the anatomy and, by the peristaltic waves of the muscles of the colon, remove all solid and semi-solid waste from the body. In simple terms, the colon is the sewage system of the body and if we fail to keep it clean and functioning properly, the waste matter will not be eliminated and the toxic residue will be reabsorbed into our system and cause numerous health problems in the areas of digestion, liver and gall bladder, heart, vision, acne, prostate, body odor, arthritis, putrid gas, headaches, and chronic illness, to name just a few. A step beyond this is of course, degenerative disease.

The colon is a natural breeding ground for bacteria which, in turn, is employed to neutralize, dissipate, avoid and prevent a toxic condition from developing in the colon. However, we must keep in mind that there are two types of bacteria: the healthy scavenging type known as bacci coli and the pathogenic or disease-producing kind. When elimination in the form of regular bowel movements (2-3 bowel movements daily) does not occur, then fermentation and petrifaction (toxemia), which could best be defined as the process by which the body becomes poisoned from its own waste by re-absorbing the waste back into its system occurs. Not eliminating properly or being constipated is like having our city garbage collector go on strike for days on end.

What happens? The garbage piles up, rots, putrefies, begins to smell and then the worms and parasites begin to appear. The same thing happens in our sewage system.

It is quite evident that the colon is the culprit to many of our health problems. The cause creates many symptoms. We must entertain the concept of treating the whole body in order to be truly healthy and pain free. Simply suppressing what the body is desperately trying to communicate to us is not the answer. It’s like shutting the alarm off of a clock and believing that we are making time stand still by doing so – we would only be fooling ourselves. If we would only view sickness

and disease as an opportunity to listen and heal the body, then we would see sickness as an asset and act upon it to bring harmony to the body.

There are many ways in which we can assist in our own healing process. There is nutritional supplementation, juice and enzyme therapy, change of diet, colon hydrotherapy, therapeutic massage and cleansing along with a numerous list of other modalities that I would be happy to assist you with in order for you to take control of your life, your body, and your health.
